    How much is too much?

Those of you who've paid for website design, I need input.

I know there are a lot of factors in this, but on average, what would you say to expect to pay for a simple (I know, that's subjective) non-wordpress website design with small graphic and a logo? Assume you already have the domain name and hosting taken care of yourself. $500-$1000? $1000-$1500? $1500-$2000? $2000+?

I know it takes time & work to build these, but I don't know how to gauge appropriate pricing. I have talked to a couple of designers, but pricing seems to be all over the place.

I believe mine was $1,600? But that included hosting.

When I spoke with a couple of designers, the vast majority fell in the $1,000-$1,500 range. They all gave me the "you get what you pay for" speech that we're all so familiar with. This was enough to make me skeptical of the <$1,000 range.

Of course, there are so many other factors that will go into the cost of your website. Mine was probably more expensive because I wanted a blog and Twitter feed featured on my website, and had my web guy integrate Flickr so I could upload my own photos.

Either way, the investment quickly paid for itself and I have no regrets with what I spent.

Well, I am on a tight budget and I decided to go with Vista Print dot com. You choose how ever many pages you want (if you want the bigger package), add the pics you want or any other material at no extra cost. I have paypal added to it if I want to sell anything, etc. I pay $14.95 per month, I get a domain and I update as many times as I want, when I want at no extra cost and I do it myself. The only down side is that you are stuck with the design of the webpages they offer. Shaharazad - Home. Just a thought.

Shaharazad---you're site looks good for a DIY WYSIWYG editor. One of the best I've seen. I'm glad to see what VistaPrint can do!

yeah, I would like to upgrade to an integrated blog & add video hosting & have the ability to post new articles by myself, & that would have upped the budget a bit- I s'pose it would help to link to my site so you can see what $500 got me:
    www.alaskaawalim.com
it may be more a regional thing too- most of my bids were coming in at $500-$1000 & I knew this guy from other stuff & knew I could trust him. $500 for him is essentially the get-you-in-the-door special, I think, & he & his wife offer a lot of other business products (like online virtual-assistant, etc.)

When my boyfriend owned his own company doing web design he made $75 an hour. At work our design guy cost $65 an hour. Those are professional designer rates for those who work for a design business...not freelance rates, which may be a little different.

Ok, so it's sounding like $1000-$1500 is roughly the ballpark average, give or take. Good to know. ..g.:

Thanks Kina! I emailed her to see what she'd charge for what I'm wanting.
