sound system for iPod
I have to admit that i still use CDs to teach and perform. but after listening to my CD skip at a Father's day show today( convalescent home special!!)---i know i need to update. I have a Logi-tech small speaker unit that is perfect at home. i brought it to class and the students said i needed more volume. so what is an economical unit loud enough for parties?

Re: sound system for iPod
Define economical? I bought a used Boze sound dock on Ebay. It is great!

I use the Harman Kardon Go + Play, which was recommended by other Bhuzzers a while back: Portable Sound System for Performing I happened to get one when Amazon was selling them for $150 (!) and then the price went up again. It really delivers a great sound, including bass, which is lacking in so many portable systems. I have used it for teaching and for gigs. The remote is a total plus!

I have a Bose, too, and it can be very loud, as in "neighbors pound on the ceiling" loud.

Re: sound system for iPod
iPod docks are my favorite Black Friday purchase. I've got a couple that I take to practice/class each week, so they get a lot of wear and tear, and they aren't going last much longer. This year I'll be looking for a good one just to take to gigs, and save it from weekly abuse, so keep the recommendations coming!

Re: sound system for iPod
For sound systems with iPod ports, do you need an iPod, or are there other mp3 players that are compatible that work well?

Re: sound system for iPod
Other mp3 players sometimes work, check the compatibility on the dock you are going to purchase first. It should say exactly what works with it on the box. My troupemates sometimes use my iPod dock with their iPhones if they want me to hear a song they like. You would expect two Apple products should be compatible though, but not always... The iPod hookup in my car works with the latest generation iPod, but won't charge it without this attachment I had to buy which makes this high pitched buzzing noise in the background (Apple changed the charging pin on the darn thing between iPod generations). Really annoying!!!

Re: sound system for iPod
I have the Bose portable Sound Dock. It's not at all economical, but it's got great sound, and it has a rechargeable battery that can last up to 3 hours, if a plug in is not available. (The one I bought actually came in a kit with a carry bag and a spare battery.)
A troupie has the Harmon Kardon, and it has great sound, too. It's also fairly pricey, though.
I went to the store intending to buy a much cheaper machine, but when I heard the difference in sound between the Bose and the cheaper ones, I couldn't bring myself to do it (and I'm not one of those people who are a real sound snob, usually--i.e. I don't need the best stereo system or the biggest speakers, etc.).
