Thread: FREE Business School for Bellydancers Workbook!

As some of you may know, I've recently been working on a project called "Business School for Bellydancers" combining information from the experiences I have had thusfar as a businesswoman and academic knowledge I have gained through my graduate degree program in business. I am very excited to say that it's DONE and the very first "Business School for Bellydancers" Workshop was held this past Saturday.

I have some extra books printed and am giving away 5 FREE to the first 5 dancers who send me their mailing address via e-mail to maryraks (at) gmail (dot) com.

I may have a few extra left after that which would be for sale, but I'm not sure how many (have to count the number I have left). If you miss that, talk to your local workshop sponsor about having Business School for Bellydancers in your area! lol

I was under the impression that this was geared to dancers who want to perform professionally. :) Why are you recommending it to event sponsors? Obviously, I'm an event sponsor. So I'd like to know what it would offer me. Please share. Inquiring minds want to know.

Sorry for the confusion! I'm sure Mary will chime in here, but she is looking to take the Business School for Belly Dancers workshop on the road. So, she's hoping to catch the eye of event sponsors (see her OP)! It was a great workshop, and I hope some event sponsors pick it up. I'd love to see more classes like this offered at workshops--there's a lot to this dance that can't be learned while actively shimmying!

Ah...got it. She contacted me off list, so I am in the loop now. I am looking forward to seeing her book. I've seen a couple of other people try to tackle this topic. Amaya & Mianaja tried to present a "Show Me the Money" workshop at Yaa Halla, Y'all a couple of years ago, but they had difficulty filling it. Aradia of Las Vegas has a workshop on going pro, which covers some of this, but I don't know how much.

Regardless, I'm uber excited to see her doing this, as I agree...it's a much needed topic in our community!

My book arrived in the mail yesterday. Thank you! It's a great read - apart from tax-related info, I'd say it applies here in Australia just as well as the US. I think this would be a great resource for dancers just starting out on performing and teaching - it provides a good, concise description of all the things you need to consider, without being too long-winded.

I got the book too and I am very excited about it. I haven't really had time to read it cover to cover, but the overall skimming of the book made me happy. I was thinking that perhaps you might consider making it into an ebook and selling it online. Seems like a great resource and it would be immediately accessible to a lot of people without any real cost to you.

I'm glad to hear those of you who have read it like it. I'm hoping that by explaining some basic business principles it'll make the "business" part of running a dance business less scary and raise overall professionalism in the industry.

I'll definitely research the e-book idea. I wasn't sure how to do it or if there would be demand, but since it's been mentioned, I'll look into it and let you all know (especially since it would save on shipping!).

Glad to hear it. If you have a saavy webdesigner...you can have the whole thing automated. Seriously. I think it would be a tremendous resource.
