Studio/Space rental in NYC?
I'm looking for affordable space rentable by the hour in NYC. There's a nice dance studio in my building, but unfortunately you cannot book time slots in it, which could be potentially problematic.
I would potentially be teaching privates or small groups (up to 6 max), so I don't particularly need a large space. I've taught before, but never in NYC, so I'm not sure where to find the best spaces, rates, etc. I'd also be open to space at a community center, Y, church etc and would love some feedback on how you've felt about studio locations/owners/etc.
Thanks!

Try Ripley-Grier on 8th Ave. Great assortment of rooms, centrally located. 440 Studios is in the E. Village, Champions is midtown. There are others not coming to mind, but a little research will yield results.

Re: Studio/Space rental in NYC?
Roy Arias (where the Aradia workshops were) has a ton of different sized rooms. The room we were in is one of their bigger ones, so it is more expensive, but they have smaller ones that are less expensive and they have an entirely different location that seems to have smaller studios and lower prices.
I've also rented space at Stepping Out Studios, which costs less than Roy Arias (they just don't usually have the large chunks of time that I need for workshops). I like Stepping Out a lot.
And then if you move into the boroughs, studio space becomes exponentially cheaper. Most dance studios by me (Queens) will rent space for $20/hour. Manhattan usually starts at $30-35/hr.

Find out where you want to teach and who. 440 studios is great but there are a lot of belly dancers teaching there already. and if you go out into the boroughs, if you find a local ballet school, inquire into their studio rental rates.
i've used this site to find theaters and they have a search for dance studio rental. not sure of the rates but it's good to check out.

I've rented space at Steps on Broadway and Empire Dance (127 W 25th although a google search did not find Empire Dance--may be out of business) studios for $15-25/hr. I took privates at Stepping Out as well, and studio rental was included in the cost/hr.

Ooh, tell me how their 37th street location is. I've never been there but it looks a little more affordable than the Times Square one. It might work for next year's workshops.

Try the studio at Belly Dance America. They're super nice. Bonus that the store is right there AND it's pretty much in the fabric district.
