Thread: My name in someone elses picture?

A friend was referring a party client to me and just said "google for Samira Shuruk and you can see what she looks like".... the client called her back confused. Apparently they did a google image search and while they were expecting a red head, a different local dancer's image came up first. Her image links of course to her website. I figure these details are OK- it's a documented public action, after all, so no one's hiding anything.
Anyway, does this mean she named the jpg file on her site with my name? Is that how it comes up?
Or does it mean she captioned it with my name or used my name in some other way?
I'm posting here to learn the technicalities of how someone did that so that I can simply make sure my own pictures are labeled, captioned and loaded on my website so google images finds them.
Can someone more web savvy please point me in the right direction to simply take positive action?

Hi Samira - I'm not all that web savvy, only a little, but if you provide a link to the image in question I think someone who knows more than I do may be able to go to the image and take a peek at the code and answer your question.

Okay, I'm not a web expert but I do a lot of search engine optimized text and the like.
It doesn't appear that she has titled the jpg with your name. It comes up because the image in question appears to be next to a list of local dancers names, including yours. If you Google image
"Alimah Amani" the same photo comes up.

As far as how to fix it, I'm not really sure.

I see what you are saying, but when I google image search it, that google search image/picture isn't showing on that page at all. A different image is. That's part of my confusion.

Yeah, I saw that. It might be that Google has the older picture cached and a new picture has been put up their since then. But I'm not exactly sure. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

its because you are on her links page with a text link that appears next to the other dancer's image. an oversimplified answer to be sure, but google has associated your name, via text and link code that includes your name, to the other dancer's picture, more strongly than anything on your own site. you can override this with some good seo-foo, but it will take some work and patience for the bots to find the changes and wait for the next image rank re-rankings.

Google ain't that clever. Your name and website is next to the photo and showhow it thought you were in the image.

If it makes you feel any better, the source code for that image does not include your name. I can't place the whole code here, as Bhuz thinks it's code for the post, but the alt and class tags are:

I find the confusion kind of funny because most of the images that do come up are you. So if I were looking at those results and saw that nearly all of them was a dancer with red hair and only one looked out of place I'd assume the redhead was the REAL Samira, or that there were 2 people with the same name.

Yeah, that happens. If you google my dance name it's not so bad because most pictures are of other Daniela's who are actually dancers. But if you google my legal name - funny stuff comes up!!

I have looked for myself a lot of times :) and entering 'my name' Belly dancer also got images of other belly dancers. One of the reasons was - I think that the belly Dancer part got the other girls up there.

I think it's weird that entering your name another dancer would pop up first - for me I always came up, for at least 10 pics first and then others.

I'm a bit confused though. Wouldn't a rational person google to find your website first to make sure you are the correct dancer?

And it's not like that is the only image in an image search.

The client was an older Persian woman. I'm thinking it's more about the clients inexperience with the internet.

It's all good. It was nothing intentional. As I completely redid my website in January- I may have even contributed to it myself.
