So I have no idea why this year is any different, but I just got a 1 million general aggregate policy for the Intensive for less than half of what I've paid in previous years. I swear I've used this company before, but maybe not.
Anyway...here's the info, because I know some of you may appreciate it.

Re: Special Event Insurance...
Thanks for sharing the info! We have a local place that usually insures our student recital, it's nice to have options.

Re: Special Event Insurance...
What are the reasons why a person would get insurance for a smaller event? I can see why you would insure something bigger like the LVBI.
I'm putting on my first show in December, audience max 250, showtime only 2 hours - is this something I should look into? What does it cover - the performers or the audience?

It's a good idea to have insurance for any event, especially in the lawsuit happy society we live in. In the case of our student recital it's a requirement to rent the theater that we have the insurance, not in case one of the performers/studnets gets hurt but in case one of the audience members do. I know does not make sense to me either but its the way the game is played.

Re: Special Event Insurance...
Yes, I always get insurance my student showcases and we have about 250 attendees (including 30 or so performers). Usually, I just get it for my own benefit, but our venue this year actually required it. You never know - someone could trip and get hurt walking to their seat and claim it was your fault because you lowered the house lights before everyone was seated! Our society is so sue-happy you never know what someone could try to hold you liable for, so it's best to protect yourself.

Re: Special Event Insurance...
I actually carry 2 separate policies, because I coordinate our shows with a local non-profit. The theater requires a policy in the non-profit's name, so we get one policy for them. And then we get a second policy for the event. We name each other as additional insured on the respective policies, as well as the venue.
And yes, it covers the audience, but not the performers (which I think is simply ridiculous because the dancers are the most likely to get hurt). Sigh.
A policy for a small recital isn't expensive, and will put your mind at ease.

I know insurance seems expensive but its one of those necessary evils. I always believed that having a good agent is key. I have found a few good ones over the years. I would recommend checking out the following when looking for your insurance.
Event Insurance Brokers
Entertainment Insurance for Film and Movie Production

Re: Special Event Insurance...
Definitely an old thread. These days I also have worker's comp insurance which would cover the performers and teachers. LOL. I've come a long way, baby.
