Group rates for troupes...
Now have a 12 member troupe, intermediate level, who would like to perform at local events, fundraisers, etc. how much is the going rate? Non-profit rate? Do you charge for by performer or as a group? I know it's much harder as a group than a single dancer, but how do you charge?

Re: Group rates for troupes...
It depends, with my student troupe ( intermediate and advanced dancers) I mostly do non paid community events and fairs,
I don't think as a rule one should just take along a bunch of non paid free student to paying conmercial events,
when I get request for paid events that want multiple dancers the total o charge ends up being my full feee plus about 150e per dancer with a smaller group and 100€ per dancer with a larger group,
the money either gets divided up between participants (if they can write official bills to get paid that is), or gets used to sponsor rehearsal costs, troupe costuming, paying guest instructors, etc etc.Last edited by artemisia_danst; 07-19-2010 at 05:00 AM.

Re: Group rates for troupes...
I usually charge my full rate for myself and then a lower additional charge per dancer. My reasoning for that is that I'm the one spending to maintain the website, send out postcards, have a phone line, etc.
so for a 20-30 minute show, I charge $175 for myself and $100 per additional dancer. That rate is for hand-picked students who are have been dancing for years and are capable of presenting a professional appearance and giving a high-quality performance. In my area, in the current economy, I only book 3-4 fully paid group shows per year -- usually 3-dancer or 5-dancer shows. There's just not much market for troupe shows, or if there is I haven't tapped into it.
I charge much less for things like nursing home shows, girl scout events, etc, but I include my full student troupe for those and consider it a value-added for their class fees, since they really enjoy the performance opportunities. The pay for those kind of shows isn't really worth divvying up, so it goes into a jar and is used to buy props for the troupe, etc.
