What do you think makes a successful performance flyer?
I am designing some new flyers to promote myself as a performer and just generally get the word out that there is such a thing as bellydance in SE Oklahoma! What do you think makes a successful performance flyer? What kind of information do you include on your flyers? I look forward and thank you for the responses!!

Re: What do you think makes a successful performance flyer?
Who are you targeting with the flyers? Are you talking about a letter-sized piece of paper that is photocopied? Are you going to be putting them on bulletin boards, or handing them to restaurant owners, or putting them on a table at an event, or for some other purpose?
For a flyer on a bulletin board, you have to figure that you have about 2 seconds to get your message across. Most people will just be glancing at it, so it has to grab attention. A big eye-catching photo and the words belly dance in bold type are a good begining.
Then consider the "hierarchy of information," i.e. what are the most important bits of information you want to get across in the two seconds that you have their attention? Usually the date is most important, then the time, then the location.
A contact phone number, email and website can be included in smaller print for those who are truly interested enough to read that far and want to follow up.
In addition to good design, I guess sheer quantity and most prominent placement is effective.
I personally hate going around town postering, I've done it so much over the years and it is extremely time consuming. Most places you have to check back in about a week to see if your flyer has been removed or covered by someone else's flyer.
