Venues for skirt dance?
I can't really imagine doing skirt dance in my current paying venues- no room in the restaurant for that much fabric flinging! & I am wondering if there are professional venues out there for fusion skirt dance? I perform it at haflas, recitals, street fairs- but none of that is paid, so I am just curious (as I sit here paying for yet *another* skirt I can't use for paid performance!) just how useful is learning skirt dance? Would a private party be shocked if they hired a belly dancer for a gig & they did a skirt dance number?
Thoughts?

One of my dance sisters and I did a skirt duette in a (paid) restaurant gig - it was a matter of finding the exact spot where it would work, and not moving from it. Its amazing what you can do in a crowded restaurant - if you look really hard. We took turns doing veilwork in the same spot!

Re: Venues for skirt dance?
wherever you can do veil work, you can do skirt.
as for your private gigs, offer this skirt dance as an option, just like you would offer sword or wings. i would say that as long as you are not doing anything a la marilyn monroe with the skirt, there is no reason why it would be considered inappropriate.
also, is there any way you could restrict your movements in places that are super crowded?

Re: Venues for skirt dance?
WHAT? You want me to tone down my wild skirt flinging? But it's so swooshy & fun! Okay, I'll take it under advisement... wish there were more restaurant options here- I'd have to move tables or perform in the bar area to do either one here- the first is not appealing to the waitstaff, the second not appealing to me! Hmmm. I might experiment next time I'm there.

Re: Venues for skirt dance?
I work with a cool restaurant owner who lets me move the tables a little bit to make some room for me to do veil/skirt work.
I started asking to move tables after getting a sequin/bead from a big Pharoanix arabesque skirt stuck in a chair after I did sort of a bata de cola kick. I dragged the chair around a bit before realizing the situation. The kids thought it was pretty entertaining, but I had to tear the beading to get my skirt out :(
