The Las Vegas event in September
I wasn't sure were to put this. i am not going this year---hadn't really even thought about it---but i just saw the list of teachers and the classes!!!!! Prices are good, no overlap of classes( a pet peeve of mine) ---this is a closer drive for me than to go to Rakassah in the Bay area in March. I don't really care about being in Vegas cause i would go for the classes and to see friends and vendors---just like Rakassah. But it doesn't seem like the fancy costume people are vending----like Turquoise or Dahlal---maybe next year they will?

Yeah, it's pretty amazing. I went in 2008 and enjoyed it so much. There are so many classes to choose from, the parties and shows are great, and the Vegas gals are so friendly.

Hi Taji. There will be an array of costume vendors. If you'd like to see Turquoise or Dahlal, I'd love it if you sent them an email to let them know. I know I've personally invited Dahlal, but she's often booked far in advance and I don't think our event is on her radar yet.
Here's our Vendor Page:

We are much smaller than Rakkash, however, I do think that we have some amazing instructors. Of course, I'm totally biased. Hopefully someone who has attended both will speak up here for you. I think it's going to depend on what you are looking for. I think both events offer great instruction.

Re: The Las Vegas event in September
I've taught at the intensive every year, except 2009 when I was at DDF, I have to say, it has grown into an amazing, big event! The amount of great teachers keeps growning every year, plus you get the opportunity to study with all the best teachers who are local, which was how the event was created, to feature all the Las Vegas talent. What draws me to an event, is the variety of teachers and subjects being taught, that I haven't had the opportunity to study in the past. I enjoy Rakassah for the shopping, but they have the same teachers year after year, so I would like them to bring some new blood in, just to mix it up a little more.
The intensive runs very smooth, the prices are great for all the wonderful teachers you have to choose from!!

Hi Taaj,
I haven't been to Rakkasah in a couple of years ... well frankly it is hard to leave Las Vegas, because we have so much. Three BIG events each Year, LVBDI which you were asking about, Tribal Massive, and Wiggles of the West Belly Dance Competition. Owning one and having worked the other two, my opinion is they all run smoothly and give dancers lots of variety.
And Taaj everything is more fun in Las Vegas, there is just something in the air!

I'll be teaching at LVBI this year... and live a few hours away from Rakkasah (east), so have gone a few times.
One thing I am hugely anticipating is the quality shows! There is a big difference between "audition shows" and call in shows.
I'm also really looking forward to meeting and taking from some people who never/rarely make it out this way. :)

Re: The Las Vegas event in September
I have to agree with the opinions stated here. I've been to and danced in Rakkasah, both West and East, and while they are worthwhile events, I love the LVBDI for the wide range of teachers and styles, for the large and diverse gala shows and for the more intimate feel. It's on a smaller scale, but I find that wonderful - it's lends to a warmer, more friendly environment and it makes it so much easier to meet folks and chat with them. Also, I don't feel overwhelmed or rushed, though there's much to see and do.
