Advice for Health/Wellness Expo
I've been asked by the local school district to set up my own booth for their annual Health/Wellness Expo. They always want something different to showcase exercise so they wanted a belly dancer this year.
So I've got my cards, hip wraps, sound system, fliers, and poster in mind. Besides having various embellishments of the benefits of belly dance, is there anything else I'm missing?? Where should I be placed? Last year, the salsa dancer was placed next to all the food.
Really excited about this because I'm weird and I LOVE expos.
btw, I had an earlier thread about being in a scifi movie. I have the copy of my clip but unfortunately the director is only releasing it in a BluRay, and the only other person I know who has one is out of town for another week. So when he's got that up and running, I'll be sure to post.

Candy. And some sort of offer to bring people in. I also sell a lot of hipscarves at these (weird, I know!)

Something free. And doing a couple of dances wouldn't hurt.

Wear a sparkly gelabaya or something else that you can stand around in comfortably, but throw on a hip scarf and dance in.
What a bout a lucky dip of wrapped prizes, including lollies, vouchers for classes, a free scarf...perhaps you could use this as a reward for signing up to your mailing list/enrolling in classes. Or you could have some other special offer for booking in at the expo,
Lots and lots of business cards/fliers.

Love the set up. Looks great. Are you allowed to set up appointments? When we used to do expos, we'd book people into the studio for a complimentary 20 minute private lesson, and then take them into the office and sell them a package afterwards. Not sure that is applicable, but it was super effective for us.

Re: Advice for Health/Wellness Expo
I'm offering a couple of free classes for their raffle and maybe a hip scarf or two.
Okay, I got the tables, chairs, banner, and hip scarves. Now, because they asked me to do this semi-last minute I just received the 1000 business cards I ordered and they're too dark. So they're useless to me. I ordered rush from vista print and it turns out they won't be here on time either. So now I'm just kinda stressing out about my cards (not to mention all that money I spent), and I guess my absolute last resort would be A LOT of fliers.

Re: Advice for Health/Wellness Expo
Can Vista Print redo them? That way at least you don't lose your money....
But yeah, a LOT of flyers is now your resort.
I like Jewelbellydance's idea of a lucky dip and lollies.

Overnight prints will refund me but it's too late to cancel my vistaprint order. I also like jewel's idea too. I feel like more things will have to go into the lucky pot now...

Re: Advice for Health/Wellness Expo
Galatea: How did you attach the banner to your table? Thanks to your suggestion, I got my own banner from Vistaprint for an upcoming event, and I love it! I also bought the plastic sticky-hook thingees to help mount it; the banner is very light, and I'm sure it will be easy to put up, but how did YOU do it? (no sense in reinventing the wheel if I don't have to ... ;-D)
Thanks!

Re: Advice for Health/Wellness Expo
I do health fairs as part of my job in health care, and I like to use those standing sail style banners or bow flags. They really stand out.
Not all venues have a place to hang a regular 5' banner overhead, and putting it on the front of a table is only helpful when no one is visiting your booth.
That said, they're not cheap. But you could also use them at outdoor performances.
here's some examples.
