Pricing for multiple classes?
If you teach more than one class a week, how do you price it if students want to take more than one class? $5 less? $10?

Re: Pricing for multiple classes?
My classes are $60/6 week session for the first class.
Second class is $45/6 weeks (25% discount)
Third and fourth classes are $30 each (50% discount)
I don't have anyone taking more than 4 classes a week yet, don't know what i'll do if the subject comes up!

Re: Pricing for multiple classes?
I have a ten% discount. I am however thinking off raising the price for one class a bit but simultaneou substantially raising the discount to 25%

Re: Pricing for multiple classes?
I only offer 4 classes a week- drills, beginning, special topic & int/adv
$15 drop in, $80 for 6 week session, $150 for full semester, $75 monthly for an all-access pass (most appealing to int/adv. students) or $60/month with an annual contract (so they are paying $60 even when classes are cut back in the summer or when we have vacation time, but they also get discounts on special workshops- very nice for me to have *stable & predictable* income!)

Re: Pricing for multiple classes?
I've been thinking about doing something like this, for the same reason. These are my concerns, can you tell me if you have advice, or if they've even been issues? (some of my concerns apply to any kind of all-access pass) Lara or anyone?
1) Students sign a one year contract then [gets pregnant/becomes ill/moves away/etc] and want to revoke the agreement after 3 months?
2) So many advanced students opt for this arrangement that no one is registering for individual sessions by class any more. I wouldn't know in advance which classes to cancel because no one plans to come to them, or everyone could show up for the same class on the same night and not fit in the studio!
3) Once students aren't committed to a specific class, I'm afraid they'll tend to miss more often (thinking "Oh, I'll go to tomorrow night's class" )and eventually drift away altogether.

Re: Pricing for multiple classes?
At the studio I worked for the student could cancel at any time with a 30 day notice.
I've never seen this happen, so I can't speak to it. I think it is an unlikely scenario as the more options you offer the more variety seems to show up. Everyone has different wants/needs, so I think you'll find that some folks will like that option, some people won't.2) So many advanced students opt for this arrangement that no one is registering for individual sessions by class any more. Students on contract are more likely to stay. This is true even if that contract is something they can exit at any time. The act of signing a contract makes it feel more real. Students feel more committed to the agreement. This doesn't mean they don't also need constant encouragement to show up, but I think this is no more likely than normal students.3) Once students aren't committed to a specific class, I'm afraid they'll tend to miss more often (thinking "Oh, I'll go to tomorrow night's class" )and eventually drift away altogether.

Re: Pricing for multiple classes?
As I answer, keep in mind that my studio is fairly small! I take this on a case by case basis- I am willing to cancel contracts if it is a serious incident- I teach prenatal/postpartum fitness too & class fees can be applied to that, or I would be willing to postpone things. I do live in a military/university town, so people disappearing isn't unheard of, it just hasn't been an issue yet. I suppose you could put in a fee for canceling a contract, but I haven't felt the need for this at this point.
I have a 2 classes that never change & will always be available & 2 that can shift- if no one is coming to one class, I can either use it for my own practice time (once or twice) or cancel that section. if one class is over full, students know they aren't getting a lot out of it & I may put another class in right after that one- it's not always possible depending on who is using the studio.
Basically, I guarantee there will be (x) number of classes available for them to take advantage of & put that in the terms of the contract, 2 of them at regular times/topics, others may change. If they make the minimum number of classes, the price is still a deal. They tend to take advantage of it & show up to more than they otherwise would.
It's mostly my already committed students who opt for this, & as I said above, they end up in more classes than they otherwise would have- in a lot of cases, this is good for the other classes as well- some of the specialty classes are a little more full, which makes them more fun. We haven't ever gone over capacity, so that isn't a worry for me right now. If anything, I think it has increased studio fidelity! It's not like we're requiring all students to sign a contract either- they get a good deal with the all-access contract in return for a promise of stability for the studio, it's actually the drop ins I worry about losing more- they don't have the financial incentive to come back if they miss a class or 2.

Re: Pricing for multiple classes?
Oh! & paypal subscription payments are an awesome feature for helping with this if your students are comfortable paying online. No more "I forgot my checkbook" once a month- they can do it before they come to class.

Re: Pricing for multiple classes?
I have a package deal for $60 for 1x a week for 5, $100 for 2 x a week for 5, $120 for 3 x a week.
My drop in $15.00
I have two begineer technique and one Jamila Salimpour format finger cymbal/folkloric fusion class, two class back to back on Saturday for those come from far.
I also do specialty classes or little workshops at my studio once a month or every other month, when I am in town.
