x-post solos vs duets for gigs

Im not sure if this is in the right forum category so if its not I apologize (xpost from student center). A friend and I were considering working as a duet gig team and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on convincing owners why paying for two is better then one?

What sort of gigs do you two think your duo is suited for/ what sort of gigs are you aiming for?

When I pitch gigs for my duet partner and I, I go over how we have matching costumes and awesome choreographies to perform together in synchrony. The show is bigger with two dancers and we can bring more energy to the party as two. Also for bigger parties, we can divide and get more people involved during audience participation.

This is actually for the OP...
So...more like corporate events or large sized weddings/events? It seems like it would be overwhelming for a smaller, private party...think about what venues are best for you, and why, and those are easily pitch points...and the venues less suited...think about how you could make it work.

Looks like I missed a keyword in your first post "owners".

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, I thought you were talking about large private parties/weddings/etc.

You're in the New York area? I'd ask your mentors/teachers questions relating to the business end of things as well.
Around the NY city area $100 and more per 20 minute show (per dancer) is the rate.
Coughing up twice the going rate (for the same amount of time) will be tough to get... but offering "more" for the same money would be undercutting.

Thanks for acknowledging this. I think a lot of people forget that overserving is undercutting

Indeed. The ethical ways to provide "more value" are related to dance quality, customer service, being able to provide what the customer is seeking (props? Dance style? etc).
More dancers, more time etc- those are undercutting.

Have no worries. we werent going to undercut anyone. We are trying to be very conscious of the whole thing. and were more aimed at the ethical ways. we both know how much undercutting can hurt everyone.

We were just more looking for advice on if anyones managed to do it successfuly and looking for pointers

I answered this post in the student center, including the breakdown - but not the actual pricing of how we structure our performance gigs), so I'm not going to do again here.
Just letting you know so that can look it up there if you want.
