as a matter of curiosity: with so many listings how would one keep things up to date? for example when teachers drop off the face of the earth? it seems overwhelming

It is overwhelming, indeed. That's why I came up with a new "company policy" - I charge $20 a year for a new listing. This way I hit two birds with one rock. I will not face too many submissions any more. And if a teacher invests money to list her/his classes, chances are she/he will not drop off the face of the earth next month. And a listing gets removed if it is not renewed in a year.
