Thread: Facebook Group Resources

So Facebook (in their infinite wisdom) has come up with a new format for groups. Here the the links to some of the "new" groups that might be of interest to you business folks.

Biz of Bellydance--For all those interested in the business side of things.

Professional Belly Dance Promoters--For networking with other event organizers.

Belly Dance Events Worldwide--Please post your events here.

There are some great things about the new format (such as the homepage updates-yay), but there are some lousy things too (such as the ability to post a list of policies for the group-duh).

The new groups format apparently has a facility for creating Group documents, but I can't make that one work. Has anyone tried this?

I did. It didn't seem to be a problem for me. It took me a while to figure out where it shows up (which is on the right underneath the list of members).

Well I'm glad it does work, but I'm totally confused, because my group has the members list on the Left & only adverts on the right. I fear that my group is under the old format (I've no idea when the new format came in).

My groups haven't been migrated over to the new format yet. I'm curious to test it out...

Hmm getting quite a few email notificatons from these new groups. That's probably the biggest change I see with this new format.

If you are unhappy with the email notifications- you can go to the bottom of an email and click on the link "change email settings."
There is also a chat feature. I like that discussions that get a new post go to the top. That's new, too.

I'm not sure that existing groups are being migrated over. I just started a new group for the existing ones I had. There are aspects I really like about the new format. The posts moving to the top is awesome, the notifications are awesome. The inability to "pin" something at the top (such as group policies) sucks eggs. But overall, the new format seems to definitely keep discussions going. The new Professional Belly Dance Promoters group has been fabulous.

Yeah, it looks like the old groups are staying as they are. I have too much information in my current groups to start new ones. I'm not sure I'm THAT impressed with the new group features anyway.

Well, I seem to have a problem keeping the old groups active. The new group feature of posting the number of updates on a person's home page has definitely had an impact. The Professional Belly Dance Promoter's group I started previously was inactive, the new one is busy with lots of great dialogue. There are things I don't like about the new format, but active is more effective than inactive (for my groups anyway). If you already have well-established active groups, then you probably don't need to bother.
