New Years Eve
Hi everyone. I'm new here. Bhuz seems like a great place for information. I am hoping you all can help me with something. I want to make sure I quote correctly. How much would you charge for a 5 minute performance on New Years Eve?

Re: New Years Eve
I've never done a New Year gig, and I'm no longer gigging so... this might not be much help at all!
I'll stay away from actual numbers - being in a completely different country and economy probably means that the actual number wouldn't be transferrable anyway! I have a flat starting rate, so just because it's only a 5-min performance I wouldn't start cheap... because I'm happier not working at all than working for peanuts. I'm a snob like that. ..l;, I would take the price I'd normally charge for this type of gig and at least double it.
In my regular job, if I work a Public Holiday I get paid double time. Well, time and a half here in New Zealand, but I still consider a Public Holiday to be a double time situation. Personally, (and sacreligiously given that I'm a Scot), New Year isn't a big deal to me and I don't think I need to "protect" my time on a special day, but I still charge a Public Holiday premium.
Hope that vagueness helps a little!

Re: New Years Eve
There are several factors in pricing. Where do you live? Because pricing in Omaha is going to be much different than pricing in LA.
How far away is the gig? If you are going to have to travel, you need to factor this in as well.
How much prep time are you going to need? Remember that you spend as much time getting ready for a 5 min gig as a 20 min gig.
I would do some research and not start below the standard price for a Bellygram. In my neck of the woods, that is between $150 - $180. Then I might add a PIA charge because they want me to abandon any plans I have to get totally rigged out for a 5 min set.

Also, you might want to take a gander at Samira's site. Lots of good info. Look under her Pro Dancer Links. http://www.samirashuruk.com/Dancer_Resources.html

Re: New Years Eve
We do 150% -200% of what we charge for a normal gig. 150% if the gig is at a time and place that allows you to do another gig on the same evening, 200% if it is positioned to block you from doing any other gigs that night OR if it prevents you from doing something else you'd really like to do.
No discount for the short length of the gig if you are going as a soloist. You'll spend almost as much time preparing for and transporting yourself to and from and then returning to civilian guise for a 5 minute as you do for a 30 minute.

Re: New Years Eve
I always charge the same amount for anything up to a 25min show - which is why I advise my customers to let me dance for the full 25 or they aren't really getting their money's worth! ..g.:
For New Years, or other special occasions I double my regular rate. If someone wants a longer show, or two short shows broken up, I charge accordingly depending on the event and the particulars.
Rates in Vancouver right now are about $70-$80 for a restaurant gig, and $200+ for private parties and weddings. Though rates vary from city to city.

Re: New Years Eve
Ditto on both of these.
Here in the DC Baltimore region most girls are charging $250 and up for an up to 20-25 minute show (that cannot be "broken in two" etc). This insures that we are being compensated for all our prep time etc.
New Years Eve is double.
Welcome to Bhuz- sounds like gigging is new to you. Congratulations on seeking advice. It's great when we all learn from each others' experiences. :)
