Wasn't quite sure where to post this, so this seemed the closest match.
There are some grant deadlines coming up relevant to dancers.
[Edit: please note that I have been adding other grant listings further down the thread. In the interest of length, I can't put them all in the lead post. Please scroll if you're looking for other grant options!]
1. Due at the end of February, a grant opportunity for international collaboration. http://www.tcg.org/grants/global_con...lcon_index.cfm
"The Global Connections program, administered by Theatre Communications Group (TCG), is dedicated to building bridges between U.S. theatre professionals and their counterparts abroad, identifying theatre professionals who will further the growth of the field, and creating opportunities for the U.S. theatre field to engage in international conversations."
There are two kinds, one that supports existing collaborations and one that sponsors new collaborative efforts.
So, this could be a potential for international exchanges like workshop seminars co-taught in both countries, new choreographic exchanges, etc. I think grant money can be used toward travel cost, but don't quote me on that.
2. For East Coast dancers, due in March http://www.midatlanticarts.org/fundi...uidelines.html
"The Foundation’s ArtsCONNECT program supports collaborations among presenters across the Mid-Atlantic region to facilitate tours of artists involving all performing arts disciplines, including dance, music, theater, and folk/traditional arts. The program is dedicated to bringing artists of the highest quality to underserved audiences throughout the region and encouraging engagements that feature meaningful exchanges between artists, audiences, and their communities."
Grant writing can seem scary at first, but you can do it! The "Everything Grant Writing" book is a really readable guide to the language, required components, etc. There is also a lot of help available online (and professional grantwriters, if you're a larger organization and can afford an outside professional). And remember, the worst that can happen is you don't get a grant, which doesn't make your situation any worse than not applying.

Re: Grant funding opportunities for dancers
Thanks for posting these! I think a lot of belly dancers aren't really aware of arts grants, how to apply, and what it takes to qualify.

Re: Grant funding opportunities for dancers
Updating this thread with some upcoming grants that may be relevant for some:
1) Travel grants for US-based artists.
"Association of Performing Arts Presenters: The Cultural Exchange Fund
The Cultural Exchange Fund, an initiative of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters, is a travel subsidy program that assists U.S.-based presenters in building partnerships with international touring artists, companies, and their collaborators. The focus of the program is on increasing presenters’ knowledge of international performing artists based outside the U.S. and the cultural context for these artists’ work. In promoting cross-cultural arts programming, travel to the Middle East, Asia, Latin America, and Africa is strongly encouraged. The maximum amount awarded per individual organization or artist is $2,000. Group travel subsidies of three or more presenters are also available, with the maximum award of $10,000. All applicants must be members of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters. The remaining application deadlines for 2012 are May 1 and November 16. Applications must be submitted online through the Association of Performing Arts Presenters website."
2) Audience development (lists by state) website here

Re: Grant funding opportunities for dancers
National grant for arts groups (i.e. organization, not single artists): Doris Duke Foundation. Grants range from $60,000 to $200,000. Here's the link.
Canadian dancers: check out the Canada Council's page here. [This is what Myles Warren was referring to at the IBCC, I believe.] Deadline every year on February 1.
For dancers in the USA, here's a list of dance councils by state. Each council might have different funding programs at different times.
From that same US site, there are some non-state-specific options listed here. Scroll down, there are some that can be submitted throughout the year (i.e. without a firm deadline).
[Note that the danceusa website also has some job listings, audition listings... it's good stuff; not BD, but we're dancers and we keep wanting to be treated as such, so...]

Re: Grant funding opportunities for dancers
Dancers in the southern US states: South Arts
From the site: "Southern Fast Track Touring grants are now applicable to presenting organizations with operating budgets of $150,000 or less.
This grant program offers smaller presenting organizations in South Arts' nine-state region the opportunity to receive fee support to present performing artists and writers from outside the presenter’s state. Support is awarded to theatre, music, opera, musical theatre, literary and dance projects that contain both a public performance or reading and an educational component. The maximum request is 50% of the artist fee, up to $2,500."

Re: Grant funding opportunities for dancers
There is an organization called the Open Meadows Foundation that supports organizations led by women. They are willing to fund new/start-up organizations. They have two application periods each year; the next deadline is August 15. It's not specifically dance-focused, but I know of a few dance programs that would fit within these guidelines -- particularly if you point out the fact that dance programs encourage diversity, spread excellence in minority arts, etc.

Re: Grant funding opportunities for dancers
The Schubert Foundation grant season is coming up again. This is a USA national program focusing on live art performances, but note that they grant to organizations (501(c)3 status with a certain budget) and not individuals. So, troupes, companies and theatre groups, this is for you! Deadline is Oct 15.
