    educational event rates

for gigs that involve a mix of dancing and lecture, how do you price them?

my question is coming from an inquiry from a library that wants on hour program/demonstration about bellydance for kids this summer (VERY vague on the details, sent me an email with no subject line and i have yet to start probing them for what they really want in that hour. i was thinking of pitching a mix of kiddie-ized "lecture" with a classic set and a folk set and talking to the organizers about attention spans while im at it....) but i've also had charity gigs who wanted 15 minutes total including information and dancing.

charity discounts aside: would you price these the same as a dance set of a similar length? how do you adjust for the "lecture" time?

I price them the same as my party deals, where I am both performing & teaching.
Do find out as much as you can, tho- I've done a few school performances when a particular student or teacher has asked just as community service- come to find out that if I can fill the theater with school kids, the district will pay up to $1000 for the performance! All you have to do is talk to the teachers & convince them to sponsor you & fill out the paperwork. Know what you're willing to do it for, but never assume they don't have a budget.

oh im not. there's a lot of things going into this for me. one is that i might not even be living in this town by then (in fact, i hope i'll have moved), but it seems like a good opportunity to have a plan for when these kinds of gigs come up ^_^
