Can anyone recommend good, free music editing programs? I tried Audacity but it doesn't recognize my itunes music :(

Re: Music editing?
For Macintosh or for Windows machine?
It's not free, but Sound Forge Audio Studio (the consumer non-pro version of Sound Forge) has been my music editor of choice since 1997. At $43 on Amazon (see http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Sound-For.../dp/B003L51CUI ) it's not very expensive.
I don't know whether it would recognize your iTunes files - I don't buy my music from iTunes so mine aren't in that format. You could try reading about it on Sony's web site at http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/soundforgesoftware - they have a forum where you can ask questions.

Re: Music editing?
Did you convert your files first? In itunes create an mp3 version of the track you want then import that version into Audacity.
If that doesn't help sorry, I use Audacity for all my editing so I don't have any other recommendations. The file thing caught me out at first.

Re: Music editing?
I use ALO Audio software. It's really easy to use and you get a free trial then i think the program is only like $19.99 or something. It's worked for me really well!

Re: Music editing?
Audacity can open the same mp3 files that itunes can. It's possible the files in your itunes aren't mp3s though. You should be able to right-click on the song title in itunes and have the option to convert it to an mp3 if it isn't already. Then

Re: Music editing?
I use a free version of GoldWave digital audio editor -> not sure if it reads itunes files (.m4a?) directly but it does do .mp3

Re: Music editing?
Oxylon (think that's how it spelled) media converter. Free.
Audacity editor.... free.
I had a hard time getting used to Audacity because my media wasn't in the proper format. Proper format- problem solved.
Word to the wise. Back up ALL your edited music. Doubly so.
I had 90% my music on my external hard drive- as a result of giving up on my lap top and in the process of moving it to my desk top- I managed to lose... all of it. <ensue panic>
iTunes can't find it. So the only copies I have of much of my music is only the iPod.... and I tried sharepod to lift the music out of the iPod... most of it came through- but anything edited.... so all my restaurant pieces- aren't there. They now ONLY exist on my iPod.
I'm paranoid and frantic about my iPod. It took several hours to stitch together my pieces for when I perform... I like them- I know them and it was a lot of work. ugh.
So...back that s%%T up!!!
