Getting the drop on events
How do you all find out events before they happen, so that you can market your services to the producers? I am always a day late and a dollar short! :)

Well...as a event producer it's heavan when a teacher contacts me. Especially when it is early enough that I can consider it. I'm working on the schedule for the 08 Intensive now.
So I suppose what I'm suggesting is that you check out the event sections on Bhuz, Ishimmy, Jareeda, Chronicles, etc. and contact the organizers early. I can't tell you how many people I have to turn away who try to contact me 3 months before my event. It's too late then.
Be sure to have a solid resume, youtube video clips, and recommendations. Those things will help you look more professional.
Much love,
Samira

Local newspapers, TV stations, community centers, radio stations, websites, tourist magazines/publications, posters (by this I mean local businesses, esp. in ethnic communities, who advertise events that may not get a wide range of press), NFP organizations (esp. arts/dance oriented ones).....you also have to network. Knowing who the movers and shakers are in your community helps a lot.

It seems that contacting the organizers of an event immediately after it is over is not a bad idea. Around here, international festivals and such are so badly advertised that it's rather hard to find out about things, even if one wants to be a paying member of the public.
