Thread: CAUTION rant: stolen photos and color designs are one issue but using videos of someone's else's product?

It's come to my attention on more than one occasion now that another silk vendor website is posting videos of dancers using AKAI SILKS products to help represent that vendor's own items.

CHEAP and totally non-authentic thing to do..this is a link to Melissa I made these veils for her a couple of years ago and it's now being demonstrated on another vendors site implied as their product.

The silk Isis wings are Merkabas I sold them to that dancer years ago before said vendor was even making half circles.

PLEASE cease and desist using AKAI products on your site ..there's no shortcuts in authenticity

A'Kai Silks is NOT claiming these videos to be copyright of A'Kai Silks but those are akai products being demonstrated..it even says so in the poster's narrative..

I don't really see the difference between the two. Both are wrong and you have the right to be upset about both.

Have you contacted the dancers to ask whether they granted permission for the videos of them to be used to promote this other vendor's product? The dancers might not like the idea of being used as unpaid "models" for a product they have no relationship with, and they might be willing to work with you in taking action against this vendor.

If someone was using photos or video of me to advertise their product, without getting my permission first, I'd be demanding that they stop! I have granted permission to selected vendors to use photos me with their product (you, L Rose, etc.), but I'd be fuming if random idiots tried to use my image to sell their products!

I wrote to the dancers using their youtube email contact so hopefully they will see it, also wrote a polite email to vendor.

Vendor should know better..vendor is not an overseas manufacturer who does not understand English or fair use of photos, videos, materials, etc.

Anyone know how to save a screenshot of the page?

Hit Print screen on your keyboard (it says printscrn on mine) Open your favorite photo/image editing program (or paint on a PC) and hit paste. Than save!

You can also paste directly into MS Word on PCs.

Two of the dancers already mention Akai silks in their description but it is not really visible unless you go looking for it... and if someone links using a channel URL then comments are not visible at all.. do you think the dancers would be willing to mention Akai Silks in the title of the video?

At least you can take a print screen and beat someone over the head with it. I cruise around looking at regional dancer websites just to keep in touch with what's going on and have learned to simply sigh and keep going when I see parts or all of a web page with verbiage very similar to ours... I tell myself that that if they cannot exert themselves to cultivate their own voice on their web site then they are unlikely to be cultivating their own voice in other aspects of their business. Or sometimes I just simplify it to 'we rule, the rest drool' - which is completely adolescent and very enjoyable.

posters can tag their videos with keywords, i would certainly never require anyone to do that (but if they did it would be easy to share their dancing and photos on the facebook fan page, I love showing you guys off :) )

well good, the links to youtube videos featuring dancers using akai products have been removed from the vendors Video information page..although the justification for using other people's property was damn funny

I came to this thread late... what's the vendor, please? For those of us who try really hard to promote and support ethical business practices, it's helpful to know. :)

HI Samira, I'm really up in the air about posting the name of the vendor, I don't need to deal with slander threats and such :( even though slander is posting something that is not true..

I do understand the need to avoid unethical or 'wrong' vendors i'm just not sure it would be wise on my part to post the name ??

Yes I just dyed a pair to go to my seamstress..there will be large pairs and half size pairs for restaurant dancing!

What is the cost for the large size and how long will it take for an order. How big are the smaller size ones?

My friend I'm waiting for my seamstress to let me know her cost to sell them but i plan to keep them as affordable as possible..they will likely be custom order nothing that will be kept in stock :)

the smaller ones are Little wings size 45 inches by 2.5 yards they will have arm scrunchies to wear on the forearm above the elbow and sticks to wave them around and beat patrons about the head and ears hehe
