attend worldwide bellydance festivals from our computers? Wouldn't it be cool if there was a way to virtually attend or interact somehow? a girl can dream.. lol

True Love Sound, a DJ company, already has done that with some local festivals, mostly tribal and tribal fusion, with live streaming video broadcasts. I'll bet more festivals will be doing this in the future.

Since I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere for a while, I'd love that!

I'm surprised more teachers aren't offering teleconferenced lessons, which requires a much smaller pipeline than trying to broadcast Mahmoud Reda's workshop to hundreds of dancers around the world at once. Someone was advertising Skype classes in the sidebar a while ago, and I think that's the first person I've heard of doing it. I know other teachers have plans, though.

if event promoters are reading this, I'd burn a LOT of money with you guys if you made streaming video available and I'd be happy to pay to virtually attend..would probably never leave my house :)
with the technology available now it seems you could really increase your attendance esp. for those of us who can't travel often due to work (or living on island)
make sure to go to the vending tables and let us look at the loot available too :)

As an event organizer, I've thought about this stuff, but I don't know the legalities of broadcasting on the internet in terms of music rights, etc. That's the biggest deterrent for me.
I wonder if live streaming of the shows would impact ticket sales. That would also make me nervous.

Re: when are we going to get around to making it possible to..
Blizzard Entertainment (the people behind World of Warcraft) last year offered streaming video of their "BlizzCon" convention, for what I thought was a very reasonable fee. I don't know if it was live, but I thought it was a great idea.
Streamed videos of panel discussions (like those at the Canada conference) would be of particular interest to me, as well as the classes. Interactive or not, I would LOVE to see instructors in action.
Competitions that offer streaming video seem like a fabulous idea. We all pretty much tuned in to Project Bellydance, and I know I would pay $25-$50 to see one of the coastal competitions. I hope you all look into this and consider it -- if the licensing isn't ridiculously priced.

I'd love to see this too and I'd likely dump large sums of money to 'virtually attend' .. oh and promters..you could offer vendor ads as well..I'd pay to advertise on them
