Thread: Buying a video camera is the best investment I ever made!!

I wanted to hop on here and share a bit of advice - as the subject says, buying a video camera is seriously the best investment in my company I ever made! It was quite a hefty investment - an HD capable camera for 1200 dollars . . . but well worth every penny. Video is the absolute best tool for improvement - I video my practices all the time. And above all, I take my camera with me to all of my and my company's performances. Owning full rights to a literal ton of video of yourself will save who knows how much money for hiring a videographer, and the variety of footage you will obtain in a short time is incredible! It has seriously payed for itself and then some. As an example, check out the promo I just cut together for my troupe the Mystik Dream Dance Company - all out of our own footage - all done for free, no licensing or anything! (And used with music from my good friend Stefan of Shiva In Exile who owns all rights to his music)

What camera did you get and what would you recommend for editing software?

Hi everyone!
I have a Sony HD Handycam. The thing is amazing. Unfortunately my computer can't handle the HD files, but even the non HD files are higher quality than local news cameras. It can pick up sound better than human ears - from the balcony of the theater you can hear the beads on our costumes rustling over the music! It has endless amounts of storage on the camera, I love it.
For editing software I've actually been using Windows Movie Maker. I was using PowerDirector but it's pretty glitchy. I am also looking for better software if anyone has recommendations.
