Contracts/Receipts for gigs -- help?
Oops...moved this where it belongs. :)
I just booked a gig for a party of 180 people that needs to go through a committee (for the City of Los Angeles's holiday party). They're paying me 1/2 up front but want a contract of some sort, and a receipt. Is it just a little memo with the date, time, performance expectations, or does it need to get all legal-ese?
are most contracts somewhere between this

and this?
Dalloua Dance Company
Anything else need to be covered? and in what form does one give a receipt when paid via cash or company check? Can that go on the contract...just like box and initial first and second payments when received??
I seem to recall a thread about this recently, so if the answers are already here to be found, please point me in the right direction... thanks!!Last edited by nasila; 11-29-2007 at 01:11 PM. Reason: add links

wow, yours is all fancy! :) do you usually email the receipt document, or hand the client after final payment?

I only do reciepts upon request (usually for big organizations like you're talking about), so I usually make it out ahead of time and bring it with me to the gig. Then after they give me the balance, I turn the reciept over to them.
The contract is manditory for every gig of mine, and is almost always emailed to the client. They then mail it back to me signed and with a deposit check.
