My photo has been stolen - I must have made it

Thanks to Sophie for pointing it out, this 'informative article' has stolen a picture from my website

Belly Dance classes, workshops, events and news. Videos, lessons, trips, health and ideas.: Tips on starting your own belly dance event

My website: Zafirah - Modern Egyptian Bellydance - Belly Dance in South London and Surrey - Bellydancer Surrey

At least its an article about belly dance and not harmful or sleazy but what are my (and the photographer who is traceylove here on bhuz) rights?

Should I ask for it to be removed or just ask we both get credited and linked? (if it was offensive I'd ask to be removed but its simply just a pointless article - trying to get web traffic?)

    Thanks

    Zafirah

If you're really comfortable with the article and what it's representing, I'd say go with the positive win-win and ask for the credit and link.

But if you're not comfortable being so strongly associated with the content of the article, then I'd say ask them not to use your photo.

Whatever you decide I hope you get an appropriate response.

Yes, you have every right to ask for it to be removed! As both a dancer and a professional photographer I have had numerous photos stolen. I have always contacted the offenders and told them that photos are copyrighted and they are using without permission. You can either a)choose to let them use it as long as they add your name and link over to your website,b) give the photographer credit, or c) tell them to remove it all together.

    good luck!

To me, it looks like you had written the article, because the photo has little to do with the content (you look gorgeous, btw). On those grounds, if I were you, I'd ask to have the photo removed. Nothing against the writing or author, I just think it's kind of confusing.

Yes, I've decided I'm just not that desperate for a link, my website is getting to the people i want it to on its own - I've asked for it to be taken down. We shall see what happens . .

As its a blogger site, there appears to be a link to report to google so I will use that if I don't get a response in a few days

I'm wondering how many other photos on that site have been swiped from the internet

Great pic. At least they swiped it and are not linking directly to your pic, using your bandwidth I've seen that too lately

If you can get a back link from a positive article, that would probably be best.
Off topic, will I see you next spring at Miss Bellydance UK? I'll be in town judging etc and would love to have a little bhuz meetup. Ping me if you have time sabrinabellydancer at gmail dot com
