    wordpress blogs with stores anyone?

It's that time again to do web revisions and I'm rather dry in the mouth over updating static pages..for a while i was using a blog on wordpress as the main site and liked how it worked out..fresh content almost daily with a side bar linking to pages that had veil and silk info, etc

In the past I also linked the blog page to the etsy store, I'm wondering now if it's possible to use a PLUG IN on a wordpress blog to add a store directly to it?

any thoughts? are they difficult to use? are plug ins available for the simple free blogs?

I'm at a slow computer until I return home it takes a few minutes to load a page ..been trying to read up on it a bit but it's slow reading.

    Hey Jes!

Funny you should post this. I started playing around with Wordpress on my site dimadance.com. I know there are plug ins for this. I fiddled with a few out of curiosity but didn't get far. It's doable, though!

In my experience, they aren't so great on wordpress. I would hire a developer to do a nice drupal based site for you. Drupal has some nice built in shop/sales applications. Hiring a developer may seem like too much of an expense, but trust me, it's worth it... everything will look great and run smoothly.

rats. I'm going to have to wear a seat belt and just look around, shop, and decide. I've worked with developers before ..this guy built the entire thing and it still messed up and his customer support sucked so I'm very hesitant about having something that I can't tweak myself. Guess I should have gone to school to be a web designer instead of a nurse lol.

My idea is to have a BRIEF section with bio, info on silk, a few photo examples but I want the BULK of the site to have a purchasing option and I'm just not sure how to do it yet.

Some items will have such a quick turnover (like veils) so I'd prefer to keep them in a store like etsy so that I can relist them with a few clicks. The made to order items should perhaps be part of the web site store. I dunno.

I know what I like about websites when I shop..I don't like to have to sift thru pages of verbiage and then try to find that same item ten pages later, and have lengthy order forms and then a checkout process. i hate sites like that, they lose me before i can create an account with them..guess thats why i like etsy and ebay you can create one account and access other stores.

Just have to try to visualize a way to display the photo galleries but have an instant gratification button next to it so that if someone sees something they like, they don't have to go thru a huge guessing game to try to find the item on another page of the site.

Don't know if it's a simple as what you are looking for but for the made to order items you could always use the old PayPal "add to cart" buttons. Most people who shop online have a PayPal account. Then link to Etsy for your "ready to ship" items. Etsy is really handy for managing items that are ready to go, but I agree for your made to order items it wouldn't work as well. Kinda stinks to have to manage two separate stores but on the upside Etsy does help keep your shoppers in the loop when products are available.
