The lovely ladies who grace the covers of cds... do they have a hand in producing the cds? Or do their photos somehow get picked up for use?

Depends on the CD.

SOME dancers (such as Leyla Lanty and Outi) produce their own CD's, and naturally use their own photos on the covers.

SOME producers (such as Hollywood Music Center) produce the CD's and make arrangements with a dancer and her photographer to use her photo.

SOME producers steal photos off the Internet without the permission of either the dancer or the photographer.

There are probably also a few who buy images from stock photo libraries. IIRC, pics of Rachel Brice from the same photoshoot that ended up on the cover of the "Magical Belly Dance" CD are in Corbis' RM gallery.

One of my friends helped to compile tracks for one CD and to write an introduction, so was featured on the cover as a result.
