merchandise
Well, it looks like i will be teaching some more workshops internationally (whoohooooo, this is getting really exciting)...
so i have a practical question. Next time i really want to have some of the music i use available for sale. people were dissapointed before that i didnt. and i really will NOT make any compitlation copies to sell (i see so many workshop instructors do that, even international ones, i dont like it). also for my own students i really need to start doing this. But i cant afford to have loads of unselled stuff lying around, definitely not at full price,
so, any workshop instructors out there that want to share (answer here of pm me if you prefer...) where you buy your cds wholesale?
thanks!

Re: merchandise
www.pekorecords.com (also known as Hollywood Music Centre)
Huuuge selection of CDs and DVDs and prompt delivery. The wholesale prices are extremely reasonable - you should be able to add a reasonable mark-up and still only charge normal retail prices. You can just email them to ask to purchase wholesale. You buy as per normal through the site, so it's nice and easy. Unfortunately, they've just increased their minimum wholesale quantity to 30 items.
Last time I ordered, I wrote a list of 'recommendations' to my students, then invited them to browse the site and place orders with me. Then I bought those items ordered, plus others to sell at class. That way, you're left with less unsold merchandise.

Re: merchandise
Another idea would be to ask the seminar organizer to request vendor(s) at the seminar to stock the cds you will be using. I've been to workshops where the instructor simply held up the cd(s) she was using and said "these are available from the vendors today." That worked well for me (and if there were multiple cds used throughout the seminar I could buy one from vendor A and one from vendor B --- and I love spreading around my cash! LOL)
Since there is a possibility of bulk sales, perhaps the vendors would be willing to sell these at a reduced price. A sale!

Re: merchandise
You might think about selling on consignment. I think Dahlal does that, as does Turquoise International. You won't make as much money on each sale but you also don't have to shell out money for merchandise either. So I guess it depends on what your goals are--to make money or just have the CD available (and make a little bit of money for your trouble).
