Show me your instructor rates!
Wanna see if I am coming in about right . . .
What do you charge for private lessons, private classes, and workshops within the dance community?

Re: Show me your instructor rates!
Samira Shuruk has private lesson rates for different areas on her site
Belly Dance Rates by Region | Samira Shuruk | Belly Dancer in Baltimore & Washington, DC
I charge $50 for a private group class, which I only offer in 6-week blocks for $300.
I don't really offer private lessons any more.Last edited by Lauren_; 11-10-2011 at 11:01 PM.

Re: Show me your instructor rates!
I think the rates on Samira's website are pretty accurate. I charge 10 per hour for group classes and 30 per hour for privates if the student books 4 at a time. Otherwise my private lesson fee is $60. I teach out of my own private studio so I don't have any overhead.

Re: Show me your instructor rates!
Workshops in Southern California vary in pricing, from a flat rate to a per-person rate.
I currently conduct workshops at my own event, Mini Market at the Casbah, and I charge $25 in advance/$30 at the door for a 90-minute session. Because I am the event producer and the instructor, I benefit from all the proceeds from the workshop.
Private lessons require that I travel to the student, as I do not have a studio. Seventy-five minutes start at $45. Small group lessons start at $65 for up to 3 people for 75 minutes. Additionally, a discount is available for a multiple-lesson series, payable in advance, and for currently enrolled group class members.

ETA: I'm flexible as to the time span for a multiple-lesson series. For example, if you purchase 3 lessons in advance, you have up to 6 weeks to use them. If you purchase 6 lessons in advance, you have 12 weeks to use them, etc. I think it's important to have a closed-ended agreement; I don't want to be keeping records on somebody's 6 weeks of advance-purchase lessons for 6 months. To be certain that everybody is on the same page, I have an agreement that spells out the beginning and end dates of the series, the cost of the series and the fact that the student's failure to complete the series in the allotted time results in forfeiture of the balance. (Have never used the clause, but it shows I am serious about the time limitations -- kinda like the forfeiture-of-deposit clause in my performance contracts if the client cancels.)Last edited by casbahdance; 11-07-2011 at 03:24 PM.

Re: Show me your instructor rates!
My rates are here: Belly Dance Classes | Samira Shuruk | Belly Dancer in Baltimore & Washington, DC
I have a one hour classes and two hour classes.
One hour class rates: $20 drop in. If you sign up for 7 out of a session you're paying $18/class, if you sign up for a full session you're paying $16/class.
Two hour class rates: $35 drop in. If you sign up for 7 out of a session you're paying $33/class. Full session you're paying $30 per class.
Session lengths vary, but that's the formula I use. People can do makeups during the session. After that they expire. I pay rent and it's not cheap, so I need a minimum of 4 people per class.
My rates are based on yoga studio rates, not other dancers. I'm pretty sure mine might be at the high end.
Private lessons... for my students $45/hr. For others $75/hr.
