If it's for another troupe that you trust, maybe.

I would charge for rental per day and also require an upfront refundable deposit for the total cost of the costumes (like maybe get a check for the full amount and hold it until after they give the costumes back and you've verified that there is no damage... then let them void the check on their own). In the rental, I'd charge by the day, but I'd also include a fee for the cost of cleaning the costumes.

Cheques can still be cancelled, I'd require that deposit in cash.
