I'd like to connect with more bellydancing Twitter users, who really use twitter - I don't mean if you sync if from another source but who actually use twitter itself.
It does make a difference, it seems like many twitter users who sync their twitter feed from FB or somewhere else don't check their twitter accounts much so there's not much real interaction.

Re: Twitter aficionados?
I don't think many bellydancers really use twitter as much as Facebook. I've done a few tests - asked questions on Facebook and Twitter at the same time. I typically get 20 or more replies on Facebook and one reply at the most on Twitter. And even that will usually be from someone I interact with on Facebook anyway....
So yes, I just do an auto post from Facebook to Twitter.
Oh yes, and I'm @charlottedancer :)Last edited by CharlotteDesorgher; 04-28-2012 at 12:28 PM.

Re: Twitter aficionados?
Although I usually post the same thing on twitter that I do on my facebook "fan page" and Google+, I hand-type it and sometimes need to modify the wording to fit twitter's maximum length.
I follow a number of people, sometimes retweeting and favoriting. I can't claim to read everything that comes from the people I follow, but I do enjoy taking a look everyday to see what people are saying. When I retweet someone I typically do NOT post the retweet on facebook, so there is some stuff that comes from my twitter feed that does NOT appear on facebook.
Stuff I tweet about includes:
* Quotable quotes related to dance
* Tips related to belly dance
* New articles on my web site with links to those articles
* Featured "article of the day" spotlighting a long-time article
* Interesting links related to belly dancing such s news stories
I agree with Charlotte that there seems to be less belly dance activity on twitter than there is on facebook.

Re: Twitter aficionados?
I do use Twitter (@RoshannaDance), I have it synced with my facebook page but I also tweet things directly, retweet interesting stuff, and occasionally reply to other people's tweets. I feel a bit more awkward replying to things on Twitter than facebook, because I don't know off the top of my head if all the people I follow also follow me, or if I'm just going to look like some randomer intruding on their conversation!

Re: Twitter aficionados?
I'm on Twitter and use it separately from FB. I dislike double posting and even if it is the same topic, I change the message between Twitter, FB, G+, etc.
I am currently in the process of graduating so not too much on social media these days, but will ramp it back up when I get my dissertation submitted.

Re: Twitter aficionados?
(cross-posted from facebook)
I'm musing about this blog entry on the subject of twitter behaviors that can be turn-offs to potential followers. Although the author makes SOME good points, I don't agree with everything.
One thing she criticizes is posting links in a large percentage of one's tweets. I do post a lot of links in my tweets, but they're almost always related to belly dancing, and they're almost always something I believe other belly dancers will want to see - news stories, interesting blogs, updated articles on my web site, etc. Judging from the fact that these links nearly always get retweeted by at least a few of my followers, I can only conclude that people *like* them and find them interesting. However, if I'm wrong about that, if any of you dislike the fact that I post so many links, I'd love to hear about it! Every time someone disagrees with me, I learn something.
Another thing she says is a deterrent to followers is having no lists. I don't have any lists, and I have 100 more followers than she does. So apparently the people who follow me really don't care whether I have lists or not. I don't think setting up lists would make any difference at all to how many people follow me on twitter. She posted a later blog extolling the virtues of lists, and even after reading that I STILL don't see how creating lists will attract more followers. Just call me Ms. Skeptic, I guess! :)

Re: Twitter aficionados?
With Twitter, I think you either "get it" or you don't; it probably appeals to me because I like reading short things!
Follower count is misleading though; I'm picky about my followers, I'll get rid of bots & spammers of course, and sometimes block the "I follow back" people too. The people who don't really use it outside of a sync'ed feed aren't much fun on there, they're not really in the conversation.
Just wanted to put out the notice here on bhuz that I'm looking for interesting engaging bellydancers who use twitter semi-socially -
Thanks for the responses you all, I appreciate it.

Re: Twitter aficionados?
Hi!
I'm on Twitter five to seven days a week. The content is usually entirely different than what's on my Facebook page, blog, or otherwise. I mostly post BD news, but also some tips, quotes, links to articles and videos, etc. I always manually post tweets!
I'm following all of you. I hope you'll follow me, too!

Re: Twitter aficionados?
I don't read my follower list regularly to delete bots and such. However, I keep a close eye on my @connect page (a few times a day), and instantly report/delete anything resembling spam.
I don't bother blocking bots and "follow back" people unless they tag me in spam. There are a few bots that pick up & retweet certain hashtags such as #Egypt and I let those keep following me. I figure it might attract a few human followers who may be interested in what I post.
Although Maqam is a synced feed, I do follow it because I don't follow Maqam's facebook page, and I find many of the tweets interesting. Maqam has really had their pulse on the Dignity Revolution across the Middle East.

Re: Twitter aficionados?
Speaking of twitter...
Do any of you use any of the metrics sites to monitor your "reach" on twitter?
I've experimented with wefollow.com and klout.com.
I don't find wefollow to be very useful because they don't seem to update their info on how many followers people have, hashtag usage, etc. For example, I currently have 1,750 followers, but wefollow still shows me at 1,057 which would be from several months ago. Therefore, I have pretty much quit bothering to check wefollow.
Klout seems to be updated close to real time, so it's much more credible than wefollow. However, I find its user interface kludgy and hard to use. I used to check it close to every day, but I'm not finding it useful to do that, so I'll probably cut back on how often I look at it.
Speaking of klout, if you use it, give me a +1 on one of my dance-related "topics" such as "dance", "music", "Egypt", etc., and I'll +1 you back.

Re: Twitter aficionados?
Shira,
It's interesting you mention Klout. I've just been doing some research on the program. It's causing a few waves! Here's an interesting article I read about how powerful the high level Klouters have become in the real world:
What Your Klout Score Really Means | Epicenter | Wired.com
Apparently some businesses are using Klout to look up their customers. They might serve them a free meal or upgrade their hotel room if they find they have a high-ranking customer. It's so weird and scary and cool all at the same time. I'd be interested to hear what you think about it.
I doubt it makes any difference here in a little New Hampshire town, but I bet it would back home in Washington D.C.
Anyways, I am on Klout under my real name (Jackie R.) and I'll K+ you.

Re: Twitter aficionados?
I have the same experiences with wefollow & klout. I like twit cleaner for keeping things nice & neat -
I do follow many synced accounts too, but often don't click to continue reading their trailing-off tweets that go to the post on FB or wherever - so it does make a difference (to me anyway) when people actually reword for twitter, what they've posted elsewhere. I do too, actually

- They're sincere about providing quality communication to their twitter followers, NOT treating twitter as an afterthought
- If I retweet, favorite the post, or post a response, they just might notice and care
- They "get" the fact that these are SOCIAL networks, and NOT just free ads on broadcast media
Re: Twitter aficionados?
Yes, if someone rewords for twitter (even if the essence is the same as posted elsewhere), it tells me three things:

Re: Twitter aficionados?Ha
Ha! Just had another confirmation of how much more responsive FB is for me. I inadvertently left my iPhone out on the garden table last night and there was a torrential downpour!!

I posted a request for suggestions on how to dry it out and got 23 responses on FB within minutes! Nothing all morning from twitter, even with over 400 followers...
Of course, I'd really rather not have had reason to do that particular test!!!

Re: Twitter aficionados?
I have 2 twitter accounts. One is for the Vegas Intensive and the other is for me personally. For both of them, I tweet by hand, but for the event twitter account I also sync from facebook.
@SamiraLV
@LVBDI
I have found that it's just better all the way around if I treat these networks separately. I used to try to ping to everywhere, but it just wan't as social or interactive, so I quit doing that.
I'm also on foursquare.

Re: Twitter aficionados?
Well one nice thing that came out of your all's misunderstanding was I found two more non-syncer's
...not that there's anything WRONG with syncing, I'm just saying!
The only reason I feel differently about sync'ed twitter feeds coming from somewhere else is that many times there's no interaction from those accounts, which is actually a big part of twitter. Thanks for posting, you all -
