    How would you handle this?

If you had a dancer on your schedule who was unqualified to be labeled as a professional but was related to the establishments management, would you say anything to them about her skill level? Do I even bother talking to her personally about it? I don't want to piss anyone off or anything. There is much more to this saga but I don't want to get in to too much detail. It's just one thing in a growing list of concerns I need to address. ,m::

First let me say I understand your frustration with this situation. Believe me, I understand. But what would that accomplish? They see her performance and know her caliber. If she can get the perks of being a pro without the effort of becoming one, what's her incentive to change the current status quo. And even though you may be right it can appear as if you're being petty, jealous, juvenile, etc. I would leave it alone and try to keep a professional distance so that no one associates your dance with hers.

Vent to your friends or here on Bhuz instead....

Is she doing anything to offend the people in the establishment? If so, then I might talk to her directly about it.

I mean, you could gently bring up conversational topics like upcoming workshops, how much you practice, good videos, etc. To be inspirational.

And I need to return your call...

in the meantime, she doesn't (always) show when scheduled to be there.

The not showing up is a legitimate objective concern that can and should be mentioned to management. Particularly so they don't think you or one of the other dancers flaked.

Just keep it very objective - dancer x was scheduled, she was notified of the schedule, did not show.

Can you explain more. Are you responsible for the schedule, and the restaurant have asked for this person to be added? And this person is a. low skill level and b. not showing up making you look bad? Is that the gist of it ?

About the skill level etc. If they want her, that is their call. About the not showing up and making you look bad, perhaps you should have a policy about this for all dancers on your schedule.

Re: How would you handle this?

I made schedules for employees at least 2 weeks in advance and same in a 9-5 job if you udon't show up you don't get paid simple relative of owner or not. If she doesn't show up give a verbal warning, if she does it a second time well put her in a less desired timeslot/night or she will be last in dance lineup. this also goes with lateness. You make the schedule right ?have the policy in writing.
Also is this dancer taking classes in the area? Is she dressing and dancing in a professional manner? Do the customers like her? Is she undercutting or stealing your tips? You don't have to be friends with the dancer all you have to do is work with her. We don't always like our fellow employees but hey the mgr hired them. (you should see the 2 lazy a$$es my mgr hired to help me during the holidays at the store)bottom line is if you have an issue with the dancer talk to her directly nice and polite of course and go from there. Stuff you hear anyone else its heresay unless you witnessed the behavior first hand and in a polite way address it.. don't let it stress you.

Re: How would you handle this?

One more nugget to give you an idea of the mindset. I had an employee there tell me one of their friends is going to be dancing there soon. I said "oh?, is she a pro, how long has she taken lessons, does she have professional costuming?" response: "Well no, she has never danced professionally before. she hasn't had any lessons....but she dances really good. She's part lebanese." I thought I had an agreement with management that I would audition anyone who was interested in dancing but apparently they don't give a crap about the quality. I'm getting really tired of hearing that so and so can dance professionally because they are part or all mid eastern.... like it takes absolutely no training at all. Can't they see the difference between living room dancers and a trained professional? I guess that's a whole nother thread though. I'm getting my knickers in a twist over it. ,m:: ,m:: ,m:: ,m:: ,m:: ,m:: ,m:: ,m:: ,m::

Just to give a little more background, Star DOES do the schedule at this establishment. She is supposed to be in charge of hiring the dancers, but has had a few names... ahem... "suggested." Also, I should mention that this dancer undercut what Star was negotiating with the managment so now everyone gets paid less.

Stardancer, are you getting any perks for doing the scheduling? If not, why bother with the extra headache? Like someone else said, you may just have to suck it up and either distance yourself from her or try to limit her to slow nights.

My only perk is by getting first choice of the dates that I want and being able to limit the schedule for anyone who is not up to my standards.
