Thread: Took a Stand at restaurant, AND IT WORKED!!!!!

Good News:

For those of you who may recall:
I had a huge fight with the restaurant I dance at, with the owner, about issues of pay, and waiting around.

LONG story short,
I'm head dancer at said restaurant. Lots of complaints from dancers and myself with the
"I'll pay you next time"
"Just wait another hour"
I tried talking to them, reasoning, sitting down with meetings, nothing worked, it was always,
"Yeah, yeah, whatever"

I PUT MY FOOT down right before Christmas and QUIT because I gave them one more chance to pay when they were supposed to and they didn't.

The other dancers on the schedule BACKED ME UP and were going to quit too unless we got paid when we danced and we didn't sit and wait around.

The restaurant sat and stewed for a couple of days with no dancer, leaving me many voicemails to come back.

Called back a few days later, sorted things out, and guess what?

We get paid with NO PROBLEMS when we are there,
We Do Not Wait Around any more.......

Moral of the Story:
Putting your foot down and
HAVING THE OTHER DANCERS on the schedule support you works.

WAHOO! Good for you!!! It's good to see that when the community stands together, things get accomplished! Way to go!

That is they key, the community has to stand together.
If other dancers ran in during that weekend, we would have been all out of a job for good and nothing would have changted.

Congratulations Maria! Both for the win of standing up for your rights *and* for the solidarity you were given to make it happen. Kudos to you and your "posse"! (Is that how you spell it?)

Wonderful! Standing together is what its all about! I know from first hand experience what happens when dancers DON'T stand together.

I'll bet part of the reason for your success is that you have been selective over the years with respect to which dancers you recruit and keep on the schedule. Ie, you've chosen dancers with enough intelligence to understand the need for solidarity, and enough maturity to see that standing with the group would benefit them more than trying to push an individual agenda.

You know, I was going to write you before ...when you quit...because you did the right thing! I am so glad it worked out! It is refreshing to hear that the other dancers backed you up....sometimes you here that "we all stick together" and then they don't follow through when it gets down to it! I have quit over such issues before...stood up for myself and always will....I never had much "back up" from ANY other dancers....so sad! BUT YAY..for you and all of the dancers that were there for you!
