I lived in Sacramento for nine years, and I can see that Jodette hasn't changed any.

It costs $100 to enter her contest. That is what floors me. Is THAT normal?

I'd like a new costume for every spelling mistake. If English is her second language, she should ask for help....or use spell check.

I guess so. I know that my ex-teacher payed a little more than that, to enter a competition in Texas organized by a well respected company. So it sounds about right. I guess that's what's financing the trip to Egypt in this case.

Paying to enter a competition is one thing... those entry fees pay for the venue and the organizer's and judges time as well as any prizes that come out of it.

But the $100 in this case is not an entry fee for an event, it's not a cover charge, or anything that could be expected to cover the operating expenses of the event. It's the cost of a raffle ticket, which is essentially gambling. When was the last time youe enterred a *raffle* for that kind of money? I mean, my office was raffling off 4 luxury box seats to a Cardinals game (retail cost probably about the same or more as a one person round trip to Egypt) the tickets were still only $20!

English isn't my first language either and I spotted some big grammar mistakes too. The kind of mistakes you make in high school. Does anyone know why she's the only authentic teacher in America?

Since I'm an editor for a living, I try to be understanding when it comes to the grammar and spelling problems of others. I realize that not everyone went to a journalism school and got into heated drunken arguments about comma placement.

But I do have one question...What are Flour words, and why would I learn them at a bellydancing academy????? I'm also pretty curious about Egyptian meditation.

What I'm saying is that in THIS case the 100 dollars is obviously financing the trip to Egypt, which is the prize. That's probably why the awarding of said prize (i.e. the trip to Egypt) depends entirely on there being at least 15 contestants, or so it states in the pictured bulletin.

    15 X 100 =1500....the cost of a round trip ticket to Egypt.

    Regards
    Priscilla

On the other hand... if you can't run a contest with a reasonable price per ticket, then maybe you ought to re-consider the prize.

As I'm from Greece I dont know her or her style, but I've been told and read that she was within the dancers of Casino Opera at Cairo the time Badia Masabni was over there, and was in the same troup started with Taheya Carioka.
    Now understanding this:
    a) she must be arab or something so the spellings are normal (but yes its easy just to say to someone to write them correct !!!) (bare my english plsssssssssssssssssss lol)
    b) arabs are very overspeaking about them selves lol they are always the best in planet, even if they start a fight for making the best Koshari lol
    c) I do love arabs dont take me wrong.
    d) heyyyyyyy so the photos in her site have to be at least from the 70's this makes her around 80????????? is she still teaching????????

    Maria Aya,r:;

p.s. adding, just remembered, Aisha Azar was her student and she wrote about this.

I want to know how she can charge $25 for beginners, and $50 for advanced. Her preference is trying to rip people off.

All I can say is don't believe anything of what Jodette writes/says about herself.
I've met some musicians who knew her in the 70's and say she was never a dancer, just a singer. That is their story anyway. There is more but this is not the place to tell it.

Also, every dancer I know who has won her competition has never gotten to go to Egypt. That is a fact.

Yes, she is in her 80's and yes, she still "teaches".

I figure that if you charge a lower price for beginners, suddenly EVERYONE will become a beginner!
