COPPER COINS (I made this especially for my *unwittingly entered 1 and only* competition back in '03).
Thing to keep in mind about costuming is that, while you are paying attention to a certain amount of detail, you are merely creating an "impression" b/c no one will really see up close. This is particularly easy with coins b/c they cover so much and create a beautiful general metallic scaley feel (if you're going with the straight up scale on a backing look)...
The shape of this particular coin presented challenges for layering. So I opted for placing each one in its own spot over the curvy areas (boobs) and I was able to layer better for the belt.
Materials:
Saroyan diamond shaped copper coins
Acrylic turquoise cabochons from Fire Mountain Gems (I used a fabric glue and really stuck those suckers on there)
Various AB, firepolished, and metallic beads from Fire Mountain Gems (GREAT resource for EVERYTHING beady, chainy...)
Cheap ass shiny copper fabric + yucky whatever fabric underneath that for stability + cotton fabric for lining
