i don't think it's nonsensical either.
what's nonsensical is tying functions together without stating that changing one will change the other.

it's like connecting the front porch light to the doorbell so when you turn off the light, the doorbell stops working. that might be a reasonable thing to do, but don't you think you'd want to know it was happening?
