Record every bite you eat for 2 weeks (fitday.com) and see how many calories you are eating, and also where those calories are coming from. Whatever you are eating now you will have to eat less (providing you are not already eating very low (~1200) cals -- if the latter is so see your Doc.
Cut the carbs overall, eliminate bad carbs (sugar, potatoes, white bread) -- eat more protein and good fats and fiber.
In terms of exercise, dancing and walking are NOT going to get rid of the middle aged spread. I wish it did. You need some intervals of intensive exercise, and some serious strength training.
