Boy, that rings true with my experience. 10 years ago, I ate whatever I wanted, had no weight problem & no eating issues. Today -- ptooey. And definitely starches/high glycemic foods are a BIG part of the problem. (I hate to say 'carbs' because that includes my beloved veggies, which don't seem to make me fat).
