Without elastic, the upper hip/waist will probably expand to 34". Personally, I find that this style of costume looks "right" when worn fairly high. I got the 32" maximum by stretching the elasticated waist all the way out, then measuring.

The lycra fabric is about the same weight as any other similar Egyptian costume, but being that it has a white foundation, it can offer a glimpse of the outline of the thigh in strong lighting. Depending on where you dance, some sort of tights or bike short foundation might be recommended. In a nightclub gig (which I'm doing a lot less of) all of this would be irrelevant.
