I think the dress does need the armholes raised 1/2" - it would not be all that much shorter and having them that low is distracting because it somehow makes the entire top part of dress look skimpy when it's not and your're not (skimpy, I mean). Your tummy is cute in this dress; boobage is perfectly fine; your butt is fine doesn't need more appliques on it. Plus, if you leave the back plain you can either wear a gold beaded belt for a more structured nighclub look or a gold hipscarf (yes, get the wavy type because it will tie in with neckline design) and it will look more "glitzy folkloric". I would even go so far as to find a matching smaller hipscarf to wear on head with really big dangly gold earrings.
By doing "less" to this dress, you will wind up with "more" flexibililty. I think it is hard sometimes when putting on a costume to see the possbilities.
