The problem with "ranges" for intake, IMO, is that we all judge our activity levels inaccurately.

That's not our fault really - I think the activity charts are just not right. There are too many variables. I can do a cardio class or spend an hour on a machine, but my pacing, little breaks, etc. means that a formulaic calories burned ratio is not going to be 100% right.

Overall, I think we misgauge portions and activity. I suspect for most of us, when we think we are eating 1200 a day - we are eating more than that.
