Hi Stef! If you want a folkloric look, a straight skirt with slits on each side to allow freedom of movement for the legs might be good. I think chiffon would detract from a folkloric effect, so I'd suggest going for cotton or a cotton blend. You could dress it up with soutache braid in metallic colors if you like.
It's fine to wear a decorated bra under the tunic if you like. The one thing I'd caution you about is to choose the decorations carefully - many trims will catch on the assuit netting and could tear it. So pick decorations that aren't likely to do that if you decide that a decorated bra is the way you want to go.
Instead of the panel skirt & bra, another option could be to make a floor-length slip to wear under the assuit with a generally straight cut and slits on each side. If your skin color is light, the contrast of a dark slip may show off the pattern of the metal design better than having a bare midriff under it would.
Other colors that might look nice with the pink are navy blue or burgundy.
