i use DUO adhesive as well. i was taught how to put them on by peopel at the mac counter. it doesn't always go smoothly but you have to be persistent. i get mine from walmart- they usually have a decent selection- whispies are my fav- just long enough with a touch of thickness. of course there are crazy ones as well. there will be LOADS there for halloween. i know sallys beauty supply carries the rhinestone ones year round.
