We’re moving to Korea in November so today we spent a lot of time on the internet. We have our laptop and a flash drive with us, so we type up cover letters, resumes and emails in our room so that we don’t have to pay for internet for a long time. It still took up a fair amount of time yesterday though so we didn’t really get out to do much.
On a girlier note our other mission for the day was picking up feminine products. I’d read that getting pads and tampons was sometimes difficult but had no trouble finding either. (Though pads were stocked at more places than tampons it seemed.)
After those adventures it was off to my 4:00 at Mme. Raqia’s. There were tools outside her apartment and she seemed to be in a meeting with 4 men, so I just walked through to the studio. I got there before 4 and ran through the whole first choreography and the 2nd up to the part that I knew and then kept rehearsing the 2nd. I started to think it was past the time when she usually checks in on me. I checked my watch at 4:10, 4:19, 4:25, and she finally came in some time after 4:32 and immediately said “I’m so sorry!”
The next 10 seconds of the choreography are 1 count moves took me a while to get. So she taught me them, gave me about 10 minutes, retaught me them and when she came to correct them the 2nd time taught me the next 20 seconds. That’s all we finished up to that day. She came in I think another 2 times to check and then I finished up.
I thought it was weird that she was still in the living room at 5:30 because she usually goes right to her room (often without saying bye) around 5. After I finished changing I opened the door and she came in. She asked me if I liked the costume I bought and asked if my partner liked it. I told her we both liked it. She asked me if I was going to buy another one. I said I didn’t know because I’d have to talk to him about it. Then she said I’d need to bring money to the lesson tomorrow. I asked her how much. She said anything is ok. I asked her again how much and she said 16 was ok. I said ok.
I walked home and didn’t really think about it but when I got there my partner obviously asked “16 what?” This is when I started panicking. I realized it wouldn’t be but in the back of my mind was freaking out thinking if could be 16 000LE (2800US).
I was worried she might be napping but thought she’d probably be up and eating by 6:30 so I waited to call her until then. She picked up the phone but was talking to someone in the room with her for the 1st minute. I told her I wasn’t sure what to bring tomorrow. She told me she usually charges more (I think I read another dancer paid her 350LE) but because I had taken so many lessons she was knocking it down to 300LE a lesson.
