ME woman (even non-professionals) will wrap fabric around their hips before they dance. (A friend recalls a village where a woman wanted to show her a dance move, with nothing suitable to use she wrapped my friend's jacket around her hips)

*nods* I was at an Algerian woman's house once and she decided we would do some dancing, so she just rolled her housecoat belt (like a dressing gown cord) down to hip level.
The galabeya looks great for folky, beledi dancing. If you are clever you might be able to subtly tailor your husband's one to make it flatter your own figure more, depending on your build. My former teacher bought a beautiful women's one (embroidered in front, very sophisticated) which had the slightest shaping so that it was still very modest and body-hiding, *but* curved a little closer to the body round the upper chest and waist, and very gently flared towards the hem. Still a tunic, just a very subtly shaped one which flattered the female frame without revealing.
