My personal feeling is that the portion under the lycra flap isn't enough to help your movement. It needs to come above the knee IMO in order to help you move more. If you can detach the lycra a bit more, that would be great.

I don't think you'll have any problems with the mesh fraying - it's mesh, it doesn't fray. However, if you decide to cut the slit on the mesh side (whichi is what I would do, personally) I'd fray check it and finish it off with the same sequin row that's on the bottom of the skirt - if you can find matching stuff. If not, I'd replace the whole row of sequins. It has to match the stuff on the bottom or else it'll be obvious that it was an "aftermarket" addition.
