do you have options at the bottom of the inbox page to "check all" and "delete"?
My first suggestion is to Log Out (not just close the browser, but actually hit Log Out at the top corner of the page, and then clear your cookies and temp files and then log back in. Also, make sure you log out of every page you have open. I end up with problems like this one when I have several B pages open and before you know it the site gets cranky cause I've created a conflict somewhere. If you keep several pages open that's OK, you just have to manage it carefully.
