You have several options, you can have the melia over both shoulders, over one or none at all. The Kholail (pins) hold the melia together. One really great trick I have used for shows where I did not have too much time to get ready is I had sewn lace sleeves onto a bodysuit and had matching leggins with lace. This did cut down on time a little.
