I'd like to think I'm not a prude either. I've seen some veeerry sexy costumes that I thought were just gorgeous, and a lot of times it depends on the attitude of the dancer.
But often, a skimpy costume is just down-right distracting! We're only human! If a dancer's boobs look like they're about to fall out of her bra, half of the audience is just going to be staring at her boobs, waiting to see what happens. Same thing with skimpy skirts and poorly placed cutouts.
Case-in-point:
I saw Suhaila perform in this costume at Yaa Halla Y'all in 2005. I don't remember her dance, but I do remember thinking, "How
could she have anything under that? Ahhh! Big spin! Look away, look away!" And notice the bit of fringe, right over where her, um, fringe would be... Very distracting. And she's such a beautiful and gifted dancer, it was such a shame!
