It's automatically reciprocal. If someone sends you a friends request that you accept, they will show up as your friend and you will show up as theirs.
Hence there are a couple of people I'm friends with twice over- we each sent each other a friends request, and hey presto, they show up twice in your friends list. In fact, at one point I was friends three times over with Lauren!
